Dance Session Options

Why you're in good hands:

I still remember watching my sister's first dance recital at 6 years old. (It was very "A Chorus Line" when I became obsessed with her tap shoes). I started dancing the following school year, and who would've thought that all these years later DANCE would still have such an impact on my life?

From my childhood upbringing in the competition studio world to my adult years performing with professional companies, on cruise ships, and in theaters, I'll be forever enamored with how dancers express themselves through movement. And since I began my professional photography career back in high school, it should go without saying that fusing these passions only heightens my joy of photographing dance. I bring a perspective to our session not just as a photographer, but as a dancer myself. I'll help you put your best foot forward as we collaboratively capture your artistry.

And now, a few FAQs about your session:

What if I want headshots too? Can I get a combined dance/headshot session?

Absolutely. Take $100 off automatically by combining any dance and headshot session.

Why would I get more retouched images with an outdoor dance session -vs- indoor?

Since the space that I'm working in for indoor sessions isn't gigantic, the post-processing of these images is more labor-intensive. (Also, since the full-length backgrounds get roughed up with frequent use, they need to be replaced every so often).

Why can I only choose between black or white backgrounds for indoor dance sessions? What about all of those bright color backgrounds I'm seeing on your website?

The brightly colored backgrounds you're seeing on my website are a great width for headshot and most portrait sessions, but aren't wide enough for full length dance portraits. If you're REALLY interested in getting dance portraits on a colored background, let me know and we might be able to work something out.

Should I come with poses in mind?

Definitely! Come with as many ideas as you can! You know your body, and you know your strengths. That's what we'll work with. If you're not the type of dancer who's comfortable improvising or coming up with ideas on the spot, that's not a problem. Take screenshots of dance photos that inspire you and create a pose-idea inspiration album on your phone. There are infinite examples of dance/movement pose ideas in the palm of your hand.

Do you require a deposit before the session?

Yes. A non-refundable deposit of $150 will be required to lock in your appointment booking. Your remaining balance will be received at the completion of your session.  (*Zelle/Venmo/PayPal & ca$h are all accepted forms of payment).

What about cancellations or rescheduling?

Rescheduling your session to another date and time (and transferring your deposit) is acceptable so long as it's done more than 48-hours in advance of your scheduled session. Exceptions are currently being made for positive Covid tests.

Cancellation of your session for any reason other than Covid will result in the forfeiture of your deposit.

What if the weather is bad?

If we've scheduled an outdoor session, & the forecast looks ominous, we will reschedule for a future date. (Your deposit will automatically transfer to that new date).

When will I receive my photos?

Within a few days of our session, you'll receive a link to your password-protected viewing gallery.  From this gallery, you'll select the images that you'd like retouched.

*Please anticipate up to 1 full week for retouch-delivery, but note that times vary depending upon my workload, so please inquire about anticipated delivery times.

Need your photos sooner than that?  If my schedule allows, I will be happy to rush your order to 2-day delivery for an added fee (please inquire). I will send you high-resolution versions of these beautifully retouched images that can be used for both printing and web/social-media uploading.

What should I wear to my session?

The beauty of dance portraits is that there really isn't a single right answer to that question. Wear something you love! Skirts/dresses with flowing fabric are really fun to play with combined with movement, but structured lines can look beautiful too. The sky's the limit.

If you want to wear actual dance attire, that's great! If you'd rather wear something more casual, just be sure that you can move comfortably in it without threatening the integrity of your garments' seams. Bright colors really pop off the page nicely, but if a subdued palette is more your vibe, choose what suits you best.
